RESTORE. REBUILD. RENEW.

Partnering with families and the community, Green Fenix restores Altadena’s canopy by planting fully grown trees, not saplings, bringing back shade, beauty, and hope in days instead of decades.

Empowered by Local Involvement, We Strive to:

OUR MISSION

Restore a Devastated Community

Restoring mature trees and vegetation throughout Altadena, California in the aftermath of the devastating Eaton Fire of 2025.

Rebuild By Replanting

With every home rebuilt, a mature, fire-resistant tree takes root—symbolizing resilience and the community’s commitment to renewal.

Renew Generational Legacy

Each new planting marks the beginning of a generational legacy for families of loss and the broader Altadena community, ensuring that what grows back is stronger than what was lost.

The Eaton Fire of Altadena, California

THE DEVASTATING LOSS

On January 7, 2025, the Eaton Fire tore through Altadena, California and surrounding neighborhoods. By the time it was contained, more than 14,000 acres were burned, nearly 9,400 structures destroyed, and entire communities left scarred.

But the destruction went beyond homes. Decades of mature trees and vegetation — the very canopy that gave Altadena its character, its shade, its resilience — were gone in hours. Families are rebuilding their homes on bare, exposed lots. Without intervention, it will take generations for this canopy to return.

  • In just 72 hours, the Eaton Fire consumed nearly all of the Altadena’s hillside canopy. What took centuries to grow vanished in days - transforming neighborhoods, ecosystems, and air quality overnight.

Without intervention, natural regrowth could take 50–70 years — too long for the families who call this home.

  • Thousands of homes are being rebuilt on bare, exposed lots. Without mature trees, even new neighborhoods remain hotter, drier, and more vulnerable to future fires.

Green Fenix is helping rebuild not just homes — but the living landscape that protects them.

  • The financial toll tells only part of the story. The real loss is environmental and emotional — the shade that cooled streets, the roots that held soil, and the sense of place that made Altadena feel like home.

Each tree we restore brings back value, resilience, and hope to the foothills.

New Home, New Tree - and Beyond

THE SOLUTION

With every home, park and public space restored, mature fire-resistant tree takes root.

Working in coordination with LA County and local partners, Green Fenix identifies priority sites across Altadena - from family homes to parks and public rights-of-way - where mature trees can be replanted to restore the community’s lost canopy.

Each participating homeowner or site steward selects a mature, fire-resistant tree - a living symbol of resilience and renewal.

Through our partnership with local nurseries, these 20+ year old trees are delivered and planted, instantly bringing back shade, beauty, and sense of permanence.

Every planting is documented and shared, ensuring that each home, park and street we touch becomes part of a larger story of recovery, legacy and hope.

Why Trees Matter

NATURE’S SILENT STRENGTH

Trees are more than part of the landscape - they’re part of our lives. A Single mature tree can store thousands of pounds of carbon, cool a neighborhood 10°F, and raise property values by up to 15%. But their true power is quieter - they ease our stress, clean our air, and make communities feel whole again.

  • Mature trees store thousands of pounds of carbon.

  • Canopy reduces neighborhood heat by up to 10°F.

  • Habitat restored for birds, pollinators, wildlife.

  • Tree-lined streets raise values by 10–15%.

  • Green canopy improves wellbeing and lowers stress.

Trees aren’t landscaping, they’re living infrastructure.

Now more than ever, Altadena needs them back.
