Restoring Altadena’s Historic Green Canopy

Together, we’re bringing back shade, beauty & hope.

RESTORE. REBUILD. RENEW.

Partnering with families and the community, Green Fenix restores Altadena’s canopy by planting fully grown trees, not saplings, bringing back shade, beauty, and hope in days instead of decades.

Empowered by Local Involvement, We Strive to:

OUR MISSION

Restore a Devastated Community

Restoring mature trees and vegetation throughout Altadena, California in the aftermath of the devastating Eaton Fire of 2025.

Rebuild By Replanting

With every home rebuilt, a mature, fire-resilient tree takes root—marking a new chapter of recovery and helping restore what was lost.

Renew Generational Legacy

Each new planting marks the beginning of a generational legacy for families of loss and the broader Altadena community, ensuring that what grows back is stronger than what was lost.

OUR FOUNDING PARTNERSHIP

Two Trees for Every Home Habitat Rebuilds

REBUILDING ALTADENA

Green Fenix has officially partnered with Habitat for Humanity San Gabriel Valley. As Habitat rebuilds 200+ homes in Altadena, Green Fenix will provide two mature, fire-resilient trees for every single rebuild — a direct, repeatable pathway to restoring hundreds of trees back into the community.

Every home. Every family. Every block.

Our Planting Partner: Moon Valley Nurseries

REPLANTING ALTADENA

One of the largest tree nurseries in the country, with a national footprint that will allow Green Fenix to scale this model far beyond Altadena.

The Eaton Fire of Altadena, California

THE DEVASTATING LOSS

On January 7, 2025, the Eaton Fire tore through Altadena, California and surrounding neighborhoods. By the time it was contained, more than 14,000 acres were burned, nearly 9,400 structures destroyed, and entire communities left scarred.

But the destruction went beyond homes. Decades of mature trees and vegetation — the very canopy that gave Altadena its character, its shade, its resilience — were gone in hours. Families are rebuilding their homes on bare, exposed lots. Without intervention, it will take generations for this canopy to return.

New Home, New Tree - and Beyond

THE SOLUTION

With every home, park and public space restored, mature fire-resilient tree takes root.

Working in coordination with LA County and local partners, Green Fenix identifies priority sites across Altadena - from family homes to parks and public rights-of-way - where mature trees can be replanted to restore the community’s lost canopy.

Each participating homeowner or site steward selects a mature, fire-resilient tree - a living symbol of resilience and renewal.

Through our partnership with local nurseries, these 20+ year old trees are delivered and planted, instantly bringing back shade, beauty, and sense of permanence.

Every planting is documented and shared, ensuring that each home, park and street we touch becomes part of a larger story of recovery, legacy and hope.

How It Works

LA County and community partners identify priority sites. From family homes to parks and public spaces - where trees can be restored.

Homeowners and site stewards select a mature, fire-resilient tree to take root and renew their space.

Our nursery partners deliver and plant each fully grown tree, restoring shade, beauty, and hope across the community.

Why Trees Matter

NATURE’S SILENT STRENGTH

Trees are more than part of the landscape - they’re part of our lives. A Single mature tree can store thousands of pounds of carbon, cool a neighborhood 10°F, and raise property values by up to 15%. But their true power is quieter - they ease our stress, clean our air, and make communities feel whole again.

Trees aren’t landscaping, they’re living infrastructure.

Now more than ever, Altadena needs them back.
